All aboard ...

It's really sad to see the train station go down hill like this. A lot of history ...
Look in the lower right-hand corner of the picture. It's a survey disk date 1934.

My hometown pulled up the train tracks when I was in kindergarten. I didn't understand why my mother was so upset, but I certainly do now. It's so sad to see a piece of history go downhill.

Sandi, believe it or not, this is where our very own Oprah Winfrey got on a train, left MS, and the rest is history.

I saw her on Johnny Carson one night and she was telling her story about leaving Kosciusko, took the train out of Durant, and headed to Chicago.

It is sad. That whole street is going down hill. The old plastic plant, Spotsware, all the buildings are going unmaintained. I drive by the station everyday and think how much I would love to see it restored.

Sad doesn't really describe the condition of Durant, much less the old depot. Unless you own a furniture store, auto repair/wrecker service, or a tire store, you're not hanging around in this town.

It would be great to see the old depot restored. I think it would make a great restaurant, bed and breakfast, or a museum. I'm not even sure who owns it.

Now that's history. Sounds like they should be putting up a historical marker, not getting rid of the place. :(
